A word of advice for all the holiday shoppers out there, apparently, and I kid you not, Ritz Camera (the store) and RitzCamera.com are two different companies that "work under different policies."

Now, please tell me how that makes sense? :slow:

And yes, I was shopping for the camera.

I found that out about Ritz Camera and was not very happy with them. Especially because the store will not give you customer service for stuff you buy at RitzCamera online. So guess what? I got my camera at Amazon.com for a hundred dollars less than RC was selling it. I already know their customer service rocks.

Very true. I'm getting my camera for $50 less than what they are selling it for, but I thought I might be able to go to the retail store for the deal I saw online. After seeing how similar RitzCamera.com is to WolfCamera.com and a few other sites, I am not going to take the risk of grey market gear just to save $50 for another lens.

I ended up getting my Nikon D70 at my local Best Buy...
They had a coupon discount that was better than anybody else... This was in 2004...

This is my favorite Nikon forum.

Hope you get a good deal on your Nikon D40...

I found a site that I can trust that sells it for $50 less, which isn't much, but I'll take it. Honestly I hate shopping online and would love to buy it in store, but for me, $50 is a lot to save, especially since SLR's are all about the extra things you buy (lenses, tripods, filters, etc.).

Oddly enough, until recently, Barnes&Noble (the store) and bn.com (the Barnes&Noble website) were two separate entities. So, it may not be as unusual as you think! But confusing nonetheless.

Really?!

I guess it is out there, but I must say that it is a really dangerous thing for internet shopping. I went to the Ritz online site thinking it is the same thing as the retail store, as in, a place I can trust if I need anything cleared up. With having websites as seperate companies to their retail counterparts, now you get into the shipping nightmares, grey market products, etc.

I've never been a fan of online shopping, but from all the good I've heard from newegg, I'm willing to take the risk. The Ritz site just caught my eye as they offered two lenses at about $50 then what it would be otherwise.

Well, it's been two or three years since B&N and bn.com were so separate. During the .com bust last decade, B&N sold off the majority of its shares in bn.com and the physical stores didn't have anything to do with it (I remember those good ol' days! I've been with the company for far too long...). And then a couple few years ago, B&N realized that they really could make money on the internet and set about re-acquiring majority stock in bn.com. Now, bn.com is a HUGE part of B&N and we have to deal with those hassles every day in the physical stores. And now you know more than you ever wanted to about B&N. :)

It does make it difficult, when something goes wrong, not having a physical place you can go to and talk face to face with someone to resolve any issues.

Exactly, or at the very least, being able to talk to someone in English. :crying:

I can imagine the Ritz stores getting flack every time something goes wrong on the website.
