Okay, so I'm not really big on the whole feature thing, but since Apoholics Anonymous is still in a bit of a pickle, I'll just do some features here.

I must say, I am ashamed I couldn't get around to commenting on his pieces earlier, because he is a very talented artist, one of those underrated and underappreciated artists.

As you can see, talent with both new and old style flames.  I love his mastery of the palette, giving his pieces both some beautiful subtle tones and colorful diversity.

:iconpasternak: *Pasternak

It has been probably more than a year since I last visited his gallery, I don't know why he wasn't on my watch before, but I'm glad I re-found him.  It is a very rare occurrence to find an artist, much less a digital artist that is able to keep a style with his art, especially for so long.

His signature dark, broody reds and blacks against white backgrounds give an interesting look to his gallery, and it is hard to mistake that color combination with any other artist, indeed, Pasternak has found his niche in the fractal world.

She's one of those multi-talents, you know, those people that are great at everything they do? ;)  From great photography, to stunning fractals, and even a few psychedelic abstract pieces, she knows how to catch your eye with art.

Okay, so...yeah, I'm a big fan of that "watercolor painting" style with Apophysis, but if you like it as well, this is where you are going to find the best ones.  A true, underappreciated talent if you ask me, go check her out!

Full-view them all please! :)

P.S.  I know that a lot of you are wondering why I am not commenting on some of your fractals, well, the answer is, I am not very pleased with a lot of the pieces I see being produced these days.  It isn't that they aren't good quality-wise, they just don't have the fractal "qualities" I am used to.  Sorry, but don't take any offense! ;)

thanks for the features!! so glad you like them! :aww:

the rest of the features are lovely too.. great choice of artists there.. all three are so very underexposed, looking at the quality of work they produce..

as for the average quality of fractal submissions lately, I'm in the same situation.. I probably :+fav: or comment on only 5% of the stuff that shows up in my devwatch. even some artists I truly adored the works of have started slacking off (at least in appealing to my tastes  ).. heck, I'm not even satisfied with my own works lately :giggle:

I agree.

Maybe I'm being one of those stubborn old people that refuses to embrace the new styles, but I miss my old woven flames, the innovation in artists, and even the lack of good quality images. It seems like everyone is just replicating the same styles over and over again, while that old creativity that used to be rampant has just fizzled away.

I think it all started with those julians :XD:

it's not really missing the old times for me, as I've been in the community for barely over a year, but it's certainly hard to stumble upon a really original and unique fractal, be it old-school (spirals, woven fractals etc.) or the new styles (julians, stained glasses etc.). it makes me really sad to see so many fractals out there that didn't get the deserved attention before and after the render to reach their full potential too.. as soon as people see something faintly interesting, they push the render button and submit it.. 3+ deviations a day per person cannot be explained otherwise

Well, unfortunately, submitting art that isn't polished is a problem for a lot of people. I was guilty of it as well for a few months when I started out. =P

well, it's not just post processing I'm talking about.. it's spending enough time on the fractal, even if just inside the program itself.. trying different angles and compositions, different colours, brightness and gamma settings, little tweaks here and there to make it just right.. they really make a huge difference..

but yea, it was the same for me as a beginner too.. most random batch flames were exciting for me

That's true, I know that I have left the comment "Would like to see where you can go with this one" or "I wonder what you could get out of this" many times. One example of this is: [link] I really don't like this piece, but it is the look that really intrigues me. I couldn't get anything more out of it, but I feel that there is something interesting and unharnessed about it.

indeed, it's a really intriguing piece.. did you ever work further with that?

Not for a long time, I kind of got swept up into Terragen, so I haven't been doing many fractals lately. When I get the time to do some tweaking, that will probably be one of the ones I go to first.

I must say that I'm not a very big fan of white-background fractal images, but some pieces work out great. The image *Pasternak got a DD for is a great example of that. Good choice for a feature.
